Interactive Workshops
Students and chaperones both get in on the act when they participate in a two-hour interactive workshop with the Camp Broadway® teaching artist ensemble.
1. PRE-MATINEE EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOP WITH LUNCH
The pre-matinee educational workshop includes the 2-hour workshop, snack and lunch
at a Times Square restaurant, a Broadway matinee and—in most cases—a
post-performance Q & A with cast members. At all workshop locations,
the students and chaperones enjoy a hearty deli lunch. Each person gets a
deli sandwich (in most cases turkey), a bag of chips, a cookie and soda or
water to drink. Vegetarian options are always available (but must be requested
in advance). A snack of fruit and juice is served at the start of the workshop
to get the group energized for the day.
2. PRE-MATINEE EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOP WITHOUT LUNCH
Same as above, but your group has lunch on their own, at a location of their choice.
We would happy to recommend student-friendly restaurants in the Times Square area.

Dracula Writing and Staged Reading workshop ~ Students go back in time to 1897, and accompany Bram Stoker himself on a research mission to the wilds of Romania. There they meet a mysterious Countess, who claims to have valuable information for Stoker – the truth behind the vampire legends. The students help Stoker re-write and finish uncompleted sections of the novel; they write and perform short plays of their own; and they help uncover the mysterious origins of the Countess, who averts her gaze from any mirror she passes...

“Surfin’ Safari” Good Vibrations workshop ~ Students are greeted by the Camp Broadway team of teaching artists, who are portraying a wacky group of "surfologists" on a road trip back to the almost-mythical California of the Sixties. Students learn surfer lingo, discover just exactly what a "fuel-injected Stingray" and a "Little Deuce Coupe" are, and explore what made the California surfer an American archetype.

“Fable and Fairytale” Into the Woods workshop ~ The students become fairytale characters who have gathered from all parts of their kingdom to solve the riddle of a mysterious curse that has fallen upon the land. They interact with the Camp Broadway teaching artists, who portray lesser-known fairytale characters such as Snow Flake (Snow White's ditzy sister) and Snotty the Eighth Dwarf. The students engage in improvisational games and quiz-show style challenges, exploring storytelling, problem solving and teamwork. By the end, students have discovered their own answer to the question "what happens after happily ever after?"

“Let’s Play Parody!” Forbidden Broadway workshop ~ The perfect way for young people to tap into their own creative juices. One of the stars of the show leads students through a series of activities that culminates in the creation of their own contemporary parodies. This workshop is designed to accommodate young people of all ages and backgrounds. Using the Camp Broadway activity sheet, students can participate either on the page or on the stage. Both newcomers to Broadway and student theatre goers will have a ball.
