THE JOHNNY MERCER FOUNDATION

In 2003-2004, Camp Broadway proudly teamed up with The Johnny Mercer Foundation to launch Accentuate The Positive, a national campaign introducing elementary school students to our Great American Songbook. Utilizing the songs of Johnny Mercer and his incredible roster of collaborators, this interactive curriculum illustrates how these classic songs stand the test of time, while focusing on creating a new way of thinking in the classroom.

Our experienced teaching artists and the specially designed educational guide, LyricNOTES™: The Life and Works of Johnny Mercer, help students learn about Popular American Song, as well as how a song is born and how music and lyrics are conceived and written, while allowing teachers to fulfill National Standards in Education.

The program has also been offered throughout New York City since 2003 and has reached over 4000 children nationally.

"This program ... sparked a level of creativity, self worth, pride and an appreciation for musicals. I believe each of my students will be back to see another Broadway show sometime in their lives."
