and love of the theatre.
What types of performing arts classes are offered at Camp Broadway?
The
program includes instruction in voice, dance, and solo and ensemble
singing. At the same time, participants are learning and rehearsing
dialogue, musical numbers and dance routines for a featured musical of
the week. Campers also participate in the Gypsy Showcase and work
together to create an original two-minute musical number that
highlights both their inventiveness and individual talents. The week
culminates in a performance for family and friends.
What should my child wear each day to Camp Broadway?
Participants
must wear comfortable, non-restricting clothing and soft-soled shoes at
all times. Dance shoes are not required, but are preferred if your
child owns a pair. Sneakers are also allowed. Please, no hard-soled
shoes, no jewelry and no jeans. Each participant receives official Camp
Broadway t-shirts.
Does Camp Broadway provide lunch?
Camp Broadway provides lunch, beverages and snacks throughout the day to keep the kids energized.
How do you ensure a safe environment for my child?
Your
child's safety is paramount to us. Camp Broadway does a background
check on every Teaching Artist and staff member working with your kids.
Additionally, all Teaching Artists in trained in CPR. Children are
escorted to restrooms and from one room to another. No child is ever
out of sight of Camp Broadway's concerned staff.
Will my child be discovered at Camp Broadway?
Camp Broadway does not focus on launching careers. We are dedicated to
providing an environment where kids can learn the skills and commitment
necessary for participating in the performing arts, but more
importantly, to excel in all areas of their lives. Many of our campers
do go on to work in the professional theatre, but whatever a young
artists dream is, Camp Broadway teaches how to make that dream a
reality.
How many campers can enroll in your programs?
Camp Broadway limits enrollment because we are committed to providing
an intimate environment that delivers personal attention to each
camper. The capacity of each program varies:
Shining Stars: limited to 25 Campers
Camp Broadway and CB2: limited to 100 campers per session
Camp Broadway: The Next Step: limited to 45
Will my child get a solo performance in the Camp Broadway featured musical?
Our
programs are ensemble-based. We feature all of our campers in small
groups and large company numbers. Throughout the rehearsal process
campers can try out for short speaking and singing lines. Although we
highlight as many campers as we can, it is impossible to give each
camper a solo. We teach campers the theatre reality of "not getting the
part," and focus on the spirit of support and collaboration that Camp
Broadway celebrates.
Does my child need previous experience?
There
are no prerequisites to attend*, but we do require sincere motivation
and yearning to experience working and training as a Broadway
professional. The stars of Camp Broadway can best be described as young
people who have a love of the performing arts, a willingness to learn,
and a desire to have a great time.
What's NEW for 2007?
Camp Broadway continues to add innovative and educational experiences to the program.
TRIPLE THREAT WORKSHOP: Both
Camp Broadway and CB2 will feature our Triple Threat Workshop where
each and every participant will be able to participate in a special
class in the three main disciplines: Singing, Acting and Dancing.
FRIENDS & FAMILY: Each
camp session is divided up by age. If your child has a friend or
relative that is the same age you can now request they be placed in the
same group. To do this, we must receive both completed applications and
full payment no later than February 1st, 2007. After this date Camp
Broadway can not accommodate any special requests regarding placement.
Please keep in mind that the Camp Broadway group is for kids 9-12 and
CB2 is for teens 13-17.
PARENTS SHOWSTOPPERS WORKSHOP:
As a parent have you always wanted to experience the Broadway life?
Camp Broadway has created a very special program that takes place on
the Thursday of the Camp week. A very special Broadway artist will come
in and teach a routine from a current Broadway musical. Each parent

completion and a once in a lifetime experience. Details about the
Parents Showstoppers Workshop will be made available in the Spring of
2007.
