Interactive Broadway Workshops
Camp Broadway is an industry leader in providing authentic Broadway experiences to theatre enthusiasts of all ages!
New York City. The center of the theatre world. We call it Broadway. Because Camp Broadway calls New York City home, we can pull from the pool of those elite actors who currently perform on Broadway, and use them as our teaching professionals. These are accomplished performers who are committed to education…and they will be your teachers.
Camp Broadway offers rare opportunities to learn from the best. Through our Interactive Broadway Workshop series, participants will share 90 minutes with a Broadway professional, learning from them what they do best. Oftentimes our teachers come from the show that you are seeing, which makes the theatre-going all the more magical.
| Our 90 minute workshops are designed for a minimum of 20 participants. If you have fewer than 20 participants, please contact our office to make special arrangements. |
Workshops for Theatre Loving Kids
The Singing Actor
Perfect for traveling choruses, this interactive workshop pairs a Broadway performer with a professional accompanist and, together, they teach the group the mechanics and interpretation of a song. Groups may select a song from the show which they are attending or any other Broadway production. Participants will not only learn music at a pace on par with working professionals, they will enhance their skills in song interpretation while building a sense of ensemble.
Recent workshops include: "Chim Chim Chimeree" from Mary Poppins; "One Short Day" from Wicked, "You Can't Stop the Beat" from Hairspray and "He Lives in You" from The Lion King. |

5,6,7,8...A Dance Experience
Not an experienced dancer? Not to fret! Our dance workshops are customized to the interests and experience of the students. All dance workshops begin with a physical warm-up and address basic dance techniques. The class will culminate in the rehearsal and run-through of the choreography from a Broadway production number.
Recent workshops include: "What You Want" from Legally Blonde; "Stepintime" from Mary Poppins. |

An Actor's Toolbox
Ever wonder how professional actors approach a play? Our Broadway artists reveal the secrets! These workshops, geared towards theatergoers of all ages and experience levels, demonstrate how one should approach scene work and character development. The instructor addresses basic techniques such as characterization, objectives and given circumstances, while allowing participants to learn by doing. One of our most popular workshops, it is perfect for performing arts groups and drama clubs!
Recent workshops include scenes from: The Pirate Queen, Phantom of the Opera, Legally Blonde, The Drowsy Chaperone and more! |

Fight Club: A Stage Combat Experience
The fights you see in the movies and on stage are art forms onto themselves. A great deal of skill and control are mandatory in making the fights safe, realistic and exciting. In our stage combat workshop, we will teach some of the basics of stage combat: building trust, learning and strengthening non-verbal communication and channeling adrenaline into usable, safe forms. Students may learn to grapple, punch, choke, pull hair and fall without personal injury. The workshop will culminate in a simple staged fight.
Students must be prepared to actively participate, wearing appropriate clothing and footwear. Absolutely no bare feet, sandals, open-toed shoes or sundresses permitted. |

| Punch-Line: Theatrical Comedy |
| It's harder to make an audience laugh than to make them cry. We will explore the various facets of the difficult world of comedy through improvisation, theatre games and scene study. Options include physical comedy, clowning and sketch. This fully participatory workshop is not as structured as other offerings and, as such, demands students' trust in each other, collaboration and thinking outside their boxes. |

Improvisation
Sketch comedy and theater games are an integral part of the important subject of improvisation. When we watch Whose Line Is It Anyway? on television, we are watching improvisation at its finest. Our experts work together with the students to create a fun-filled learning experience that can be translated into any theatrical discipline. Students can expect to create characters based on given circumstances and interact in simulated environments, as well as use props in various, unconventional ways. |

The Camp Broadway® Simulated Audition Experience
For our most advanced theatre groups, this mock audition gives students an insight into the professional world of "getting the gig." The audition muscle is something that must be exercised like any other muscle and this class will do just that! Structured much like a real audition, individuals will perform a short selection (musical or monologue) and then receive constructive criticism in a master class format. Non-participants become the audience and will get as much out of the experience as the participants! |

Exploring Technical Theatre
What you see on stage is usually supported by more than one hundred backstage crew members, not to mention the combined efforts of the design and directing team. This question and answer session allows participants an in depth look into the workings of the non-performance aspects of theatre. We will address costume, make-up and hair design as well as lighting and scenic design. This workshop is perfect for adults or students of technical theatre. The lecture will involve viewings and analysis of classic designs throughout Broadway history. |

| Theatrical Puppetry and Mask Making |
| The visual arts meet the performing arts in this exciting, hands-on workshop. Led by puppeteer Bill Hubner from The Lion King and Little Shop of Horrors, the students will create their own masks and puppets and learn to manipulate them in theatrical ways. There is a surcharge for materials that accompanies the regular fee. |

No activity is required of the participants, making it a perfect choice for adults and senior citizens. Conversations are one hour in length and feature up to three artists. |
